Hurricane Irene New York

New Yorkers that are still in recovery mode from Tuesday's earthquake could soon be treated to a second natural disaster in a week.

Hurricane Irene is now down to the Bahamas, and its current location to put it in New York City 30 km. Accuweather.com said the storm could also move right on New York ", which is a serious risk to millions of people." And even if the earthquake has done nothing but cause an explosion tweets "if Irene has hit the region later this week," Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski says, "is a very different story."

UPDATE: Governor Cuomo declares state of emergency at the approach of Hurricane Irene.

New York, Florida, and unlike other victims of Hurricane cities are fully prepared for such an event. International Business Times has a good story about the dangers of a hurricane affects New York.

Mayor Bloomberg is urging New York residents who live in low lying areas of the line for a place to stay ahead of a possible evacuation of the upper end of this week because of Hurricane Irene.

Bloomberg said Thursday he expects a final decision on Friday whether residents in the city called "Area A" would have to evacuate before the storm s' now expected to reach the city on Sunday. This area includes the neighborhoods along the coast, including Battery Park City in Manhattan, Coney Island in Brooklyn and Far Rockaway in Queens.

Crews working to clean catch basins to help the drainage of the streets. The city also moved in both houses the police station in low areas, forest contractors hired distress and crowned backup generators with fuel.

As the Category 3 hurricane on Long Island in 1938 killed 50, another storm will wreak havoc far worse in these areas, according to The New York Times. "The development of compact cities in eastern Long Island in the decades following the 1938 storm could mean big losses in a storm to come."
